Gothic Inspired CHS Field Wedding | Saint Paul, MN | Caitlin + Ryan

DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | CANDID WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | MINNEAPOLIS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Caitlin and Ryan knew they were going to have an incredible party.

It all came together in the last moments – the health inspector had been there just a few hours before, and they were given the green light.

They had a tattoo artist giving on-site tattoos to guests.

The waitlist filled up instantly upon the arrival of all their favorite people. Because of course, if Caitlin and Ryan were just as into the tattoos, it made total sense that their favorite people were too.

As everyone filed into CHS field, they were greeted by misty air and string lights and endless hugs and love from everybody else present. Their event had their closest family, and was filled furthermore by a large group of tight-knit friends.

As a documentary photographer, this group of people was the sweetest to photograph. Everybody was so excited to be fully present – phones down for the ceremony, tattoo ink flowing, and the silliest of little moments playing out over and over again throughout the night. But these smallest things become the biggest things when looking back on a lifetime.

Some of my personal favorite things to witness? Bride’s dad getting his FIRST tattoo – a custom line piece designed for him, for this day. The bride being fed a little snack by a friend while getting her tattoo. Blown kisses and thumbs up between the bride and groom while getting tattoos. The musical theater moments on the dance floor. And so much more that I can’t even begin to describe.

This to me is the power of documentary photography at weddings – if you walk in with no expectations, you open yourself to possibility instead. And you end up with images greater than you could have ever dreamed up.

Curious about having a documentary wedding photographer? Reach out. I’m happy to have a conversation with you where we can start to explore the photographs of your dreams.
