DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | TWIN CITIES FILM WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
There is something about a warm late August day in Minnesota that feels a little bit like a dream. The sun hangs around a little longer, the air is warm, and everybody seems to find a reason to stay outside just a little bit longer.
For Sararosa and Matthew, the Minnesota Boat Club provided the perfect setting for their Italian villa inspired wedding. Think romantic European summer, long afternoons, beautiful architecture, and the kind of gathering where the most important thing is having everybody you love in the same place.
And honestly? What more could you ask for?
The two of them wanted a day that felt beautiful, of course, but more importantly, they wanted to be fully present. To experience the day with their favorite people, to enjoy the conversations that happen when nobody is watching the clock, and to have those little moments together when the rest of the world fades away.
Because a wedding day is a strange thing. You spend months, sometimes years, planning a single day, and then suddenly it is happening. Your people are arriving. The ceremony is beginning. Somebody is crying. Somebody else is laughing so hard they can barely get the words out. There’s a quick hug, a slight touch of an elbow, a knowing glance.
And if you’re not careful, it can all go by in a blur.
This is one of the reasons I love documentary wedding photography so much. My job isn’t to pull you away from your celebration every twenty minutes to recreate something that looks like a wedding photograph. It’s to witness what is already happening. To notice the way your people look at you. To see the hugs that last a little longer, the unexpected laughter, and the quiet ways you find each other throughout the day.
Of course, I will always make room for those quieter moments together, too. A little time to step away, take a breath, and remember that this is your marriage you’re celebrating. You don’t need an elaborate production to make those moments meaningful. Sometimes, all you need is a few minutes together and the space to actually experience them.
As a documentary and film wedding photographer in Minneapolis, I want your photographs to feel like your memories. Not just a collection of pretty images, but a record of the people who showed up, the way the day felt, and all the things you might not even realize you’ll want to remember someday.
And for couples who love the warmth and texture of analog imagery, film wedding photography adds another layer to that experience. The softness, the colors, the little imperfections. It all feels especially at home at celebrations like these. (There’s a few analog images sprinkled throughout this story).
My favorite part? When couples can look back at their photographs and remember being there, rather than remembering how much time they spent taking pictures.
If you’re planning a wedding in Minneapolis or Saint Paul and looking for a candid wedding photographer who values your experience just as much as your photographs, I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up.
Let’s make images that feel like the life you’re building together.
