Kelsey and Ryan’s wedding felt like being invited in on a secret.
Le Venere: Saint Paul’s Newest Speakeasy-Style Wedding Venue
Le Venere is one of the newest wedding venues in Saint Paul, MN. And their March wedding had the perfect atmosphere: low light, vintage touches, and a speakeasy charm that made everyone lean in closer for their conversation. Add a day that turned out far warmer than anyone expected, and you have a celebration that felt intimate with that aura of spring joy.
Photographing Le Venere just weeks after their opening was like getting to discover something before everyone else does. The space carries a speakeasy charm with a delightful moody atmosphere. While it may have been designed with the low-light environment in mind, the social hour space and bar, with it’s floor to ceiling windows, lets light flood the space in the most beautiful way.
My approach as a documentary wedding photographer is to stay near and observe quietly, and to let the day happen in front of me. The goal is a gallery that feels like remembering the moment as it unfolded, and not remembering the staging and posing that went into it. My couples always feel transported back to their experience, and not the experience of pretending for a photograph.
These are the things that Kelsey and Ryan trusted me to find, and it’s what makes a wedding gallery worth returning to a decade later.
Shooting as a film wedding photographer adds one more layer. The grain, the warmth, and the gorgeous color rendition of film pair naturally with a vintage setting like this one, and they hold up as the years go by.
