Chase + Dorothy were one of the first couples affected by pandemic wedding planning.

They were originally scheduled to get married in May of 2020 – making them among the first wave of couple’s who had to postpone or cancel their event just within weeks of it happening. They ultimately decided to marry among a close group of family and friends on family property, and were so thankful to have gotten to do that together.

But this little celebration they hosted, they didn’t wear wedding attire. They dressed up, but it wasn’t the same level of fancy. It wasn’t everything they were planning. And they felt they were missing out on that moment of Chase getting to see Dorothy for the first time, in that wedding dress.

Chase talked about how he always dreamed of that moment, and that they weren’t sure they would ever throw a larger “reception”. They came to me looking for that first look experience.

The session plan

They simply wanted to celebrate their year and a half of marriage, their time together, and to finally get dressed up and take photos at all the places they loved about Duluth. So they got fancied up, and they met for a first look down on Park Point Beach.

From there, they chose to head to the aerial lift bridge, and Lester Park on Seven Bridges Road. The craziest thing about this day, was how PERFECT the weather and atmosphere was. A ship had just came through. In October on a Tuesday it was almost 70 degrees, and there were NO crowds to be found. Anywhere. How often do you explore Canal Park on a 70 degree day and have to dodge not a single other soul???

They spent an hour with me, but more importantly, they spent an hour just loving on each other. Like all of my other clients, they focused on things they love – with no direction, input, intervention from me. They danced. Laughed. Embraced. Spent time being only who they are together, and nothing else.
